HIPAA stands for the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. This notice does not apply, if you only purchase the Clean Kid Manual, because you are using it as a Do-It-Yourself manual or book without any direct or personal consultations with me. Please note that this site does not accept third party insurance payments in any form. Accordingly, the new HIPAA law does not strictly apply to my services. However, there is an opinion that this law will effectively become a new "standard of care" for health providers. I will seek to comply as much as is possible with the laws as they are currently interpreted. This notice went into effect on April 14, 2003.

The
standard pediatric “top down” approach to end encopresis uses oral
stool softeners to liquefy the stool. It assumes that your child’s
colon is like a stopped up bathroom sink! Leakage and accidents are
not a serious issue for the physician because he/she is preventing
a blockage and a possible rupture of the colon. It is even called
“maintenance therapy!” The standard pediatric approach accidentally
works in 40 to 60 percent of cases within about a year. Paradoxically,
it may even train the child to counter productively “hold” and fight
off voiding urges more strongly and less successfully because of leakage.
It may even be training for failure for some children!
